How can my unit help? (Information from Christina Humble)

  • We can use both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. 
  • Cub Scouts: We mostly will use the Cubs for greeters and other smaller roles. 
  • Boy Scouts / Crews: We would love to have Boy Scouts that would be willing to help with set-up/tear down and being posted throughout the walk to make sure the walkers are staying on the course/path. (We have used Boy Scouts in these capacities in Charlotte and it has worked great).  We would most likely fill them in other areas where needed.  Parents are always welcome.

Service Hours and Contacts:

  • We are also happy to provide letters for service hours as I know that this is a requirement for units.  I am also attaching what we will be using to help us with all of our volunteers day of.

  • Melissa Actherman will be reaching out to the volunteers once they have signed up as she is our volunteer coordinator for the event.

Some example Service Areas (more are available): 

Load & Unload Take Steps Supplies: assist with loading & unloading the supplies to correct locations at NCSU Centennial Campus. Teenagers and adult volunteers are suitable for this area (Arrive at 12:00PM)

Promotional Handouts: Hand-out maracas at starting line of the walk as participants line up to start the walk. (2:30PM-3:30PM) any age volunteers would be suitable for this area *Need as many people we can to help

  • This is a great use for Boy Scouts, students that are on hand to volunteer

Water Station: hand out water to the walkers/participants on the route and cheer on those who are walking the route. Any age volunteer is suitable for this area (2:30PM-5:30PM)

  • This is a great area for Boy Scouts and other students/student groups who are out volunteering

Clean-Up: assist when event is over to clean up all areas, pack the tables, chairs, and load materials to be returned to CCFA office. Teenagers and adult volunteers are suitable for this area (6:30PM—Until we are done) *Need as many people as we can get
